My class kicks ass. We're going on a field trip to the Makah museum on a Saturday in November, and we'll get all of Thanksgiving week off from class as a result. This is my second field trip, the first was to the Burke which (I am so embarrassed to admit this) I had never been to before last week. That will change & Kieran will be dragged in there many times in the future.

It is very eerie how two prior classes that mentioned nothing about studying Native Americans in their titles have set the stage for me getting the most out of this one that does. I've already learned about & processed things that are usually Western perspective stumbling blocks (tribal sovereignty, 'noble savage', Boldt decision, etc) and can focus on the different PNW cultures which absolutely fascinate me.

I can already tell that as thankful as I will be to finally have my degree next year, I'll need to focus on learning something afterward or I'll go nuts. I love the challenge each quarter presents & how much my perspective on life is enriched as a result. Or perhaps I'm supposed to figure out a way to make sure Kieran gains similar alternative perspectives in age-appropriate ways that he'll never get from standardized education. Much to think about.
