The nontraditional Christmas traditions

I'm not going to write about all the usual family gifts & celebration stuff, because we had the most fun as we usually do: our own little family enjoying our Christmas Eve engagement anniversary!

Our family present to ourselves was a membership to the zoo, and one of Kieran's was 'his own' (adopted) grizzly bear there. We open our family presents Christmas Eve night (which is not wrong or early, it's Scandinavian) so Kieran didn't know beforehand about his bear. This was probably a good thing because it was 34 degrees, most of the animals were hiding or asleep, and we could only handle a few hours & didn't get to see them.

We did see the utmost in cuteness though...





They've only been on view since the 18th between 11-2 in an exhibit that groups of 20 get to spend about 5 minutes visiting. It is next to impossible to get good pictures of them (flash results in cage bars & nothing behind them, very dimly lit) but they were so clumsily adorable with those huge feet! The two of them were born on Sept. 13th at 2 lbs and were 31 & 33 lbs on the 24th. More info & videos of them are here if you want to see, we look forward to watching them grow up :)

All Kieran could talk about was 'baby tigers! baby tigers! bye bye baby tigers' for a few hours afterward, I think we'll keep a trip to the zoo as a Christmas Eve tradition along with our presents, Chinese food, and the gigantic Spode goblets that hold half a bottle of wine each.

I heard that they are keeping the tiger cubs in the leopard habitat, and that the cubs are tearing it to pieces...ah the vagaries of youth.

that is awesome. :) that's a good tradition, to go to the zoo. :)
those tigers are so adorable.
