Thank you to my wonderful friends both far & near who commented, emailed & called to wish me a happy birthday, for I truly did even though my team lost. Again. *sigh*

I have a 40 minute window between when I get home from work & I have to commute to class twice a week, and of course last night was one of them. I briefly entertained the idea of skipping class (a rarity for me now), but it was a good thing I didn't because we had a pop quiz worth 10% of our grade. We'll see if my BS essay writing skills spare me, I only managed to finish this week's reading in one of our two texts.

My husband had dinner ready for us on our wedding china when I walked through the door, then gave me a devil's food cake with chocolate frosting he baked that afternoon (after getting a tape measure to check the pan dimensions, I gently reminded him to check the measurements written on the bottom of it next time). It had '32' written in Ghirardelli double chocolate chips because we haven't been able to find our birthday candles for a while, Kieran helped cut the cake then happily shoved the (dull) knife in his mouth to eat the frosting stuck to it. That's my boy :)

We've both been jonesing for chocolate something fierce, so I also helped myself to a little bit once I got home from class, and a little bit before breakfast, and a little bit for a midmorning snack after playing Kieranball. Kieran has miraculously recovered from the cranky illness and is sunshine & happiness today despite the snot!

My husband took one look at what was left when we did the noon home/work exchange today and exclaimed that I was a pig. Ok, he didn't use those words, and maybe I am, but this is CHOCOLATE CAKE we're talking about and it's my birthday. His birthday is 3 days before mine and normally he gets the cake; this year he got mud pie when I took him out to Tony Roma's (we still talk about our first dinner date there almost 7 years ago) & the cake was declared mine, but of course we share it in both cases.

Bet you'll never guess what I had a little bit of before I headed out the door for work.

Husband: "Hey, you had even more cake!"

Me: "Sheesh, who made you the Cake Nazi?"

My mother-in-law bought me something I have wanted for many years and never told anyone about: a May bone china teacup & saucer with lilies of the valley painted on it. I was so touched & really enjoyed my morning tea today, I'm going to make it a habit to pick out one of my (non antique) teacups to have at least some tea in instead of automatically pouring it all into a commuter mug.
