The Cake Emergency
Dec. 21st, 2002 02:01 pmThanks for the concern Angela, it isn't as bad as it sounds actually.
So, after the Kentucky butter cake stuck to the pan, I sent my husband out to get 'a large cake' since our instructions for the potluck were for each of us to bring a dessert to feed 8 people. For the 2 of us, that meant 16. My office is weird, we always have way too much food at our potlucks because none of us eat that much, but I digress.
He came home with half a chocolate sheet cake with vanilla icing! I knew we'd have leftovers afterwards, in addition to the butter cake we were nibbling on... not a good thing when I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight only last week.
The potluck was wonderful, Kieran was well behaved.... and there were already so many desserts that there wasn't even room on the table for our cake. That meant the entire sheet cake came back home, waaaay too much for the two of us to handle, and thus the cake emergency.
Luckily our friends who helped us with the overabundance of pumpkin pie last month were still on call, and gladly took half the sheet cake and part of the butter cake away from our house. I sliced up the rest and wrapped it for the freezer, so hopefully I'll be able to maintain my weight (my goal for the next few weeks, 7 more pounds off in the new year is my goal). Since we won't be hosting any family gatherings, only going to other people's houses to eat, I think things will be ok!
