The joys of homeownership

Ants: higher invasion number yesterday than the day before, resulting in an escalated Misto attack & strategic (re)caulking. We'll see what the afternoon hours bring today, they're at their worst between 3-6.

Furnace: Thank God I got off my ass and finally scheduled an inspection for today with the off-season discount rate. After being told in 2000 to not bother with yearly inspections because it was in primo shape, I then managed to forget about scheduling one in 2002 (as recommended) or last year.

( Without the inspection, it most likely would have blown itself up sometime this winter. )

Many cheers to PSE for not charging for the furnace/hot water heater inspection at all & keeping the bill (spread out over 3 months) to parts and two hours of labor. They were there between 10:30 to a little after 2:30, with repair work started around noon. We feared the damage would be worse than it was since two men were working on it for so long, but even so it's still better than the cost of replacing the furnace in the middle of winter when we need it the most.

In other news we had so much fun seeing They Might Be Giants at the zoo last night, but that's a post for later.

Drinking discoveries in Denny

mmmmm... forget the lemonade, Mike's Hard Lime is wonderful. I love that I'll always associate it while sitting around in my last class of the quarter (shh! no drinking in class, it was hot chocolate or something) with my prof & classmates while discussing education, power, racial stereotypes, colonialism & a myriad of related issues.

I was so impressed that I promptly included it in the Fred Meyer shopping list tonight, although it did look sort of odd in the checkout lane sitting in the middle of the organic milk & other crunchy-looking groceries, toys, and an overabundance of duckie things for my friend's baby shower.

No ants showed up at all, which either means they gave up or are redoubling efforts and we're in for it tomorrow.
