We weren't able to head out to my MIL's or to visit my distant relative today since both Kieran & my husband have rather nasty colds and I'm fighting it off. I definitely don't want to be one responsible for getting a 98-year-old woman sick, so we'll head over later this month.

We realized the change in plans yesterday when Kieran woke up from his nap in a foul & snotty (literally) mood, and now I'm glad that we'll go later. I wasn't nearly as well-prepared as I should have been for the visit, and now I have more time to gather up some old family pictures in some semblance of order and lightly pester a closer (in relation, not distance) relative I've found by email for some news from his branch to share with my local relative. When we talked on Friday, she filled in a gap for me about what happened to half of my great-grandfather's brothers... one was shot down over Germany in WWI & the other was working on a telephone pole that they accidentally forgot to shut off the power to.

I got a lot done that I wasn't planning on as a result of a free day: bought fleece for two blankets that are now ready to hem, and ordered 100 pictures to finish up both my MIL & mom's Kieran memory albums as well as Kieran's school & our family Christmas albums. For class, I emailed my prof about needing help identifying which Coast Salish group lived near my ancestors & doing an independent research project (instead of group project, blech). She wrote back saying she'd ask the faculty (she's Native American but not PNW, Apache/Hispanic) for advice on locating them, and wanted to know more about my family history & incorporating stories from it in my research paper!

I never would have imagined that one day my great-great-grandpa would help me with my homework...
