My kid has more common sense than I do
I forgot to write earlier about how Thursdays are phonics sharing days at Kieran's preschool. Everyone brings something that includes the sound in it, preferably as the first syllable but sometimes that isn't realistic (i.e. xylophone isn't correct for x, but box is). Beyond the letters of the alphabet we also have sounds like 'ch' and 'oo' and today's was 'ee'.
Last night I thought about bringing something green as a possibility, or maybe an eagle since the object doesn't have to be spelled like the phonic. Beyond those I was honestly blanking on alternatives. Yes, I'm a bit preoccupied.
Last night's conversation about the matter:
Me: Hey Kieran, the sound for sharing time tomorrow is 'ee'. What would you like to bring?
K, without hesitation: I know, Eeyore!
Me, hiding an 'oh duh why didn't I think of that' expression: Yes, that's a great idea honey.
Eeyore was safely buckled in Kieran's booster seat on the way there this morning, and another parent who saw him said 'Wow, that's a good one' and was surprised when I said that Kieran had come up with it himself. I'm so proud.

Yes, it must be a similar brand of logic that leads my son to refer to the stuff in his soup as "tofood" and modeling clay as "play". Also, junky cars don't have dents; they have owies. :)

He likes learning at school, but socializing is kind of iffy as the majority of the class turned 5 last fall & his 4th isn't until the 25th of this month. There's only one other boy within a month of his, the rest are 5+ months younger and it makes a difference at this age. I'm hopeful there will be a better balance in the fall.
Kieran's at what a call a non-anal Montessori. The name & methodology are not trademarked and there are loads of places are using it only for market appeal. At the same time, there are places that go way overboard and feel sterile. Regardless of what type of preschool you go with, visit several different ones in session to get a feel for them.
Check out the resources and see if the methodology feels like a good fit with Cole's personality and your home environment. There is a big Montessori store in Santa Rosa, take a field trip and see how he likes the materials :)
Edit: why can't we edit comments without deleting & starting over? Ugh!

We have a kid who's way attached to his "little brown puppy." When they do "something soft," he brought little brown puppy. "Something you have loved since you were little" was little brown puppy. Yesterday it was "something that starts with C." He brought little brown puppy, with a paper tiara-thing with cat ears taped on it, and a pink paper nose taped on, and little white paper strips for cat whiskers.
And I just wanted to pop in and show you this (http://geographile.com/mary/wedding/vows.html). :)
