I have been up since 3 am, but I finally have a good paper in progress that I think will be A-worthy even with my prof's bizarre format requirement. The fact that one of the main characters in our current book lives in Pleasanton is something I have worked to my advantage. I've learned the prof gets very excited when we can teach him about power & conflict (which rarely happens), and I doubt anyone else in this or his other classes has a firsthand knowledge of the transformation that area has gone through since the 1940s when my grandparents bought a house there to today. The result is a huge conflict between the old residents who are now paper millionaires due to property values & new residents who can actually afford to buy property there, which ties in nicely with conflicts regarding power, money & society throughout the rest of the book.

It's sickening how much of a morning person I am & always have been. Last night I asked Ryan if it would be better for me to down a Coke (I was exhausted, up since 4:30 plus payday means work starts at 7:30) and get going on the paper then, or if I should just go to bed and start work whenever I woke up. He looked at me like I was nuts, and reminded me that I'd probably write better with rest instead of caffeine. He was right, of course, but the combination of rest & the clarity these early hours always brings me is phenomenal when combined with a cup of Murchie's. I wouldn't have been able to pull this off without today being a holiday though, I know I can take a nap this afternoon & work on the paper more tonight.

Back to work for me.
