The department I'm technically an employee of is moving to south Lake Union in 2006; the department I actually work for is not & plans to remain north of campus. This means if we stayed in our current job situations Ryan would move, I wouldn't, and the split shift care situation we have for Kieran would be impossible... plus pointless for Ryan to commute that far for a part time job.
My plan wasn't to work for either department in 2006. However, if it is true that all the UW departments here are relocating, then the plan to work part time for SDRG in 2005 is out if they move back to campus or much further south than where we are now (oh how addicted we have become to free parking and a 7 minute commute).
New plan we came up this afternoon: Fall 2005 - enroll Kieran in half day preschool, I continue working at either the current or another UW part time job (I'm self-limiting to UW based on my service credit & the fact they have benefitted part time jobs and a fair amount of them), Ryan works full time somewhere. Things have to get better in the economy by then, right?
And if you think this is long range planning, I was mumbling out loud the other day about working for WWU (when you're a state peon, it's all about the service credit). My mom is as healthy as a horse and will probably be around for decades to come, but my family's nasty habit of dropping dead unexpectedly is always on the back of my mind and she has the most gorgeous location for a house ever...
