System overload?

Why can I remember things like Kieran's height & weight measurements for the past 6 months and what percentiles they fall in, yet forget something like say... driving the car home from work?
Kieran's 6 month checkup and our office holiday party were both yesterday afternoon so we did some tricky maneuvering. Ryan drove his car to the morning shift, I came later with Kieran in my car (he loves staring at crowds of people, especially when they are eating), then my husband drove Kieran home in my car while I stayed for my afternoon shift. Ryan came back later with Kieran for the appointment, picked me up, and off we went.
He's healthy as a horse as usual, up to almost 19 lbs and 28" (75th and 90th percentiles, respectively), plus we'll get a free book at each appointment from now on thanks to Boeing (why, I'm not sure, but I won't argue). Of course after an appointment comes shots, he braved them well.
Sadly, whatever synapses were supposed to be firing to remind us to go back to work and have one of us drive my husband's car home failed miserably. Sadder still, it took us coming home and staring at the blank spot where my husband's car usually is parked to realize we forgot it. My best friend/sister dropped me off at work to get it when she drove her rental car back to the airport later that night, but I haven't felt that stupid for a long time.
Between that and the Cake Emergency (another story for another post), I think I'm ready to call the holidays a wrap.
