100 degree haze & victory garden

twilight33Once again, all of us were sick all weekend and the perma-low grade fever is still with me. I think I've finally figured out why we've been constantly sick this spring: Kieran's speech therapy. We're not used to going to a hospital once a week & my guess is the concentrated germ exposure is wiping us out. Initially we thought it was preschool, but we managed all winter without getting sick a single time. We canceled today's session, I needed enough energy to slog through work and my presentation at my (last) class tonight, and next week's is canceled too.
I'm doing some more reading on recent language development research... I know the tendency to focus too much on moving a problem to clinical perfection. Kieran has made significant progress and I am no longer sure he needs further sessions. The speech/brain connections have been made, his pace might not be perfect but I think it's sufficient. More on that later.
I love our rock garden, I can't wait to watch the new plants grow over the summer. It's given me the confidence I need to handle the rest of the yard in small steps, not an impossible jungle to be conquered at once. Finishing the fence, on the other hand... someday.
And this is after a fair amount of work, the boulders to the left were completely covered by weeds.
New plants include Victoria lilac, lithadora, mallow, iceplant, creeping jenny, carpet rose, and funky blue spiked things I can't remember the name of right now.
