The newly liberated on crack
Sep. 8th, 2004 07:00 pmToday's print comic of Between Friends was so accurate for me that I'm cutting it out to post on my monitor at work. Main point is 'I would say anger motivates me... you know, that primitive desire for revenge... that "I'll show THEM" attitude. It always drives me to perform my very best.'
The old 'performance goal' under my former supervisor for cranking out manual leave benefit accruals (as in paper, pen, calculator & I... seriously) for a staff of 175 people was the 15th of the month. I polished off the last of those for August around 2 today, and Monday was a holiday. As a comparison, my former coworker uses an online system with automated calculations & has fewer exceptions to enter in it since 95% of her staff aren't overtime eligible (polar opposite of my department). The last accrual report I've seen from her was for June. As in, she still hasn't met the deadline of July 15th, let alone August 15 for July. Let's not forget she works full time and I'm only there 24 hours a week too.
I was so pumped by this accomplishment that I promptly dove in and created an Access database of my employees after a round of HR open positions followup with managers. I haven't touched Access since an intro class about 3 years or so ago, but I'm finally motivated to learn it now. I also can hardly wait to be trained on a better online system than the one my former coworker uses, and hopefully will implement it for my department next month.
Is "I'll show THEM" my motivation for all this?
HELL YEAH!
But for now, Kieran just came up and said 'Read again, please' for Click, Clack, Moo -Cows That Type.
