twilight33Continuing the insane long range planning streak, I've now gathered all the important papers that really should be in the safe deposit box, made a list of them, and will actually put them in there tomorrow. That combined with listing all our assets ranging from details about the cars, house & accounts down to the life insurance policies we forgot we have for free through work in order to write up a joint trust has been exhausting.
Another nice work benefit is referral to legal help for 25% off, and release time from work for a first appointment regarding each issue. Since we both work for the same place, I started the process with my release time last week, and when everything's written up & ready to sign we'll do so while Kieran is at preschool and my husband has his release time. Very cool deal!
I still can't figure out the motivation behind getting all this stuff done now, although it's likely because guardianship for Kieran isn't legally set & that's really bothered me for some time. We have very strong opinions that may not be in line with what the average judge would decide, and the trust makes it crystal clear & not to be messed with. Let's hope that now that we've finally gotten off our butts to establish legal guardianship, it never has to occur.
