Another glimpse of the future

A few months ago I was talking about cultural advocacy. A few weeks later, when I asked that prof about writing a letter of recommendation for me to apply to grad school, I mentioned that I could see tribal liaison work as a possible career path & she was really supportive. I also mentioned this possibility to my prof from a previous quarter, who is in the American Indian Studies dept here, and she was also supportive. We both expressed regret that AIS doesn't have an MA program at this time, but the paperwork is crawling through the bureaucracy to change that someday.
Today, a link to a job posting for a tribal liaison landed in my inbox. I'm not remotely qualified for it yet (nor do I want it now), but given a few more years in the career path I'm on I could be even without an MA.
Then it dawned on me: I'm not supposed to get an MA in Communication. I have plenty of that in my background already & know how to use it. Maybe I'm supposed to get one in AIS years from now, maybe I'm not supposed to get one at all. What I spoke as a possibility is realistic either way, and I'm where I need to be for the moment. The additional hours are working out well & I'm much less of a basket case now that I have time to handle everything.
I love 'aha!' moments.
