Plans for next quarter
Mar. 19th, 2004 04:23 pmStill no sign of my SOC grade yet, but hopefully that'll be posted next week.
This would have never happened at SSU in the early 90s, but with a new millennium at UW I can get COMS 400-level credit for studying the Internet. Woohoo! I'm enrolled in Public Discourse on the Internet, generic description reads "Study of public advocacy and persuasion in internet environments, including public interest advocacy sites, political campaigns, advertisements, editorials, and essays. Various critical models applied to analyze narratives, style, argument structure, and credibility of internet discourse." There's an obvious focus on political campaigns & activism since our textbooks are Campaigning Online and Cyberactivism.
Even better, the class is established as CR/NC from the start so I don't have to stress out trying to achieve a perfect A. I am still very fond of & in touch with my old COMS department (I wonder how many other department honors nominees didn't actually graduate), and this is my first COMS class at UW so it should be interesting to get a feel for what they're like here. I can't wait :)
