Travel voucher is en route to my inbox, even the phone agent sounded impressed by the amount!

Tonight I headed off to Petsmart with a $5 coupon for cat food, found that it was an additional $5 off with my loyalty card, and just submitted their online form for yet an additional $5 gift card rebate.

I went to the grocery store for some surprise dessert treat for my husband & I to share since Kieran's asleep and got the receipt with the automated survey that gives me a code for free hot French bread the next time I'm there.

On the way home I had the funniest thing happen that initially almost scared the crap out of me though.

As I was turning out of the parking lot, there was suddenly a distinct electronic BEEP! that emitted from the car that wasn't the horn.

"Agh, wtf?" I thought.

BEEP!

"Agh, wtf?!"

BEEP!

"@#&* stop it!"

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

"OMGWTF, is the damned car about to explode?!?!" ...then I saw it.

The seat belt light (which isn't in the dashboard) was flashing and apparently also BEEP!s for the passenger seat, which was occupied by 18 pounds of rather sedate cat food. The groceries were on the passenger side floor (light groceries go sailing off the seats in this car) so I couldn't shove the bag forward. We haven't had this happen before and I didn't open the passenger door, I guess there are now weight sensors in car seats to trigger alarms like this?

I had to reach over as I was driving and safely buckle in the cat food to get the car to shut up.

What cracks me up is babies/toddlers aren't supposed to ride in the front passenger seat of cars, so what adult out there weighs just 18 lbs?

18 pounds of cat food - net? Maybe with the weight of the cans it was more?

Perhaps they want you to buckle in ANYthing over a certain weight, figuring it could go flying through the windshield in an accident...

My car has a light that flashes if there is weight on the passenger seat (and I think for less than 18 pounds; I don't think my briefcase, lunchbag and purse weight THAT much), but luckily it does not beep at that weight!

The beetle has those sensors (they not ony beep about the seatbelt but turn on the air bag for the passenger side), but ours kick in at about 35 or 40 pounds. I discovered that when Shifter decided he wanted to sit in the front seat while I was driving....that BEEP drove my absolutely nuts the whole way home! Now I just fasten the seatbelt anyway if the dogs are in the car.

My Saturn does that too. :) There have been a few times my husband, the firefighter-and-former-police-volunteer, has forgotten to buckle up while I'm driving around town with him. The thing goes off, I look at him like "Busted!!"
