Thanks Grandpas
Nov. 11th, 2002 08:45 pmToday was Veteran's Day, and I paused for a while to remember both my grandpas who served in WWII while holding the flag that covered the coffin of one of them. We take so much of what they all fought for for granted. I miss all my grandparents so much. It seems wrong that they've all been gone since 1998, and I still can't move on from the death of the last one since we were on a plane to see her when she unexpectedly died. I hate that none of them got to meet Kieran, although I'm sure they know about him just the same.
It's very surreal to look at my own mom and my husband's parents and realize they are grandparent figures to him. They're all so awkward in their new roles & not at all similar to what I remember my grandparents being like, but I guess time will help smooth that out. For the time being, Kieran must be as amused as we are because he stares at them like they're on crack as they try to get him to smile and call him the silliest nicknames ever. It's a point of pride for us that no one can get him to laugh like Mommy & Daddy can!
