Just 1/6th left!
Mar. 9th, 2005 05:40 amI have been far more concerned about my term paper, worth a quarter of my grade, than my final over the past week. The concern was over the fact that it just wasn't going anywhere, but that was because I was trying to approach it from a normal and reasonable thought of writing it on weekend afternoons while Kieran was having a nap or outside playing with his dad.
Nope. For whatever reason, I can only write by getting up by 5am at the latest and listening to the cats fight as the rest of the house sleeps on until 6am, and then in the rushed 20 minutes between when Kieran goes down for his nap and I have to go to work. This results in me prepping stuff for dinner in a minute, and not enough time for me to make a sandwich for lunch. Last night for dinner we had grilled wild sockeye with cajun seasoning, salad & homemade bread timed to be done when I got home from work. My lunch was the two tortillas, yogurt & a Diet Dr. Pepper I could easily grab and run out the door with.
Ah well, at least my paper is done to hand in tonight. I'm employed. Claritin continues to keep allergies down to a dull roar. Kieran just woke up and is reciting the alphabet over the baby monitor. Life is good.

Girl, maybe I'd be as skinny as you if I ate like you (the lunch, I mean!). After deciding yesterday that I might have allergies (and that one or boht of my kids might, too) I headed to the Target pharmacy and the guy there recommended Clariten, so I'm hopeful that it will be an answer for me, too!

Date: 2005-03-09 04:43 pm (UTC)It took a few years of living here before allergies kicked in, I think mine is to conifer pollen. If the Claritin works for you, stop by Walgreen's and give their Wal-itin a shot since it's cheaper normally and on sale this week. They'll take it back if it doesn't work too. I've found nothing works 100% for me, but this is the best option for non-drowsy. Good luck, did you get to see St. Helens blow last night? So cool on TV, but I'd be nervous if I saw Rainier doing that!

Date: 2005-03-09 05:06 pm (UTC)I was actually at Target last night when I heard about the eruption. My little DS has been SO stuffed up that I just couldnt put him through another night without trying a new medicine. DH was gone to Seattle, so I had the kids in tow and was trying to grab Claritin tabs for me, Children's Claritin for the kids, and a big pack of kleenexes, and the last Childrens Clartin had the top of the box open, but I took it anyway. As I was standing in the checkout line my nose started dripping furiously, so I was trying to hold all my stuff, keep my DS hand, and open the kleenex package, and I ended up tipping over the Childrens Claritin box and it fell out and shattered all over the floor. So after I dragged the kids and my armload of stuff back to the pharmacy and determined that yes, it was actually the last box in the store, I ended up having to go across the street to Safeway to buy another bottle!
So, long story short, we ran into our pastor at Target and he told me about the mountain, but by the time I made it back home, it wasnt even on TV anymore, except for the local weather channel! This morning it's pretty foggy down here, but I caught a good glimpse of the mtn on my way to work, and it's quiet and calm again! It's interesting, though, because apprently in 1980, it was similar to this situation, lots of small activites that kept building until the big one!
Where did you live before you moved to Seattle?

Date: 2005-03-09 05:31 pm (UTC)We saw St. Helens on the 6pm local news and cracked up with the stupid newscaster questions.. 'What's happening?' Um, it's obviously spitting out a lot of ash & steam, duh!

Date: 2005-03-09 06:01 pm (UTC)I think the Claritin seemed to help my DS. Yesterday morning his nose was all crusted over and nasty, and this morning he just had a few little crusties around his eyes and his nose, and he seemed to be breathing easier. My DD wasn't as bad, but she was sniffing a lot last night, so I gave her a dose just for the fun of it!
Today nobody could see the mtn because of all the fog, so the morning radio show I was listening to had callers calling in to tell about their "mountain views" of the morning, which was just them describing their car stereos, since that's the only mtn input anyone had this am! It was stupid, but funny just because they were making fun of the whole media freak-out!
you amaze me

Date: 2005-03-10 04:42 pm (UTC)Good luck with the term paper.
I have sarcoid, diagnosed in 1998, tho not offered any treatment - inhalers not going to improve situation. I also have breast cancer (diagnosed 1995) which has spread to my bones now and I've to go in tomorrow (Friday) to get results of bone marrow tests done last week. My sarcoid problem, apart from affecting my lungs - d'oh - has given me problems with my eyes. Really affected my vision. Just wondered if anyone you know has had eye problems through sarcoid.
I've been truly amazed by your courage and your cheerfulness which has come through on your journal. I have really enjoyed reading what you have written, the good and the not so good.
I did my first posting to breast cancer and sarcoid community. Got replies from breast cancer but none from sarcoid. Suppose it's cos it's not really mainstream. After all, as my doctor said, "it's supposed go away by itself". Yeah, right. I am on 15m prednisolone daily as well as strong painkillers for bone pain etc., but at least I'm now eating proper food and have gained weight. Mind you, your dinner sounded so wonderful - the grilled sockeye with salad and homemade bread - i'm sitting here at the keyboard almost drooling!!
Regards

Date: 2005-03-10 05:38 pm (UTC)As you've probably already read, I've been in remission from sarcoid for 4 years. Considering how rare it is to begin with, I have a further rare variant called Löfgren’s Syndrome that acutely hit in fall 99 although I think it started showing up (extreme fatigue & frequent fevers) in 98. My experience was limited to lung efficiency, hypercalcemia (elevated calcium level, didn't really do much), erythema nodosum (painful red swellings covering my feet, ankles & shins) & horrible arthritis... I have so much more sympathy for the elderly now.
I don't personally know others with sarcoid, let alone those with it in their eyes (my optometrist knows my sarcoid history and checks carefully though). There is a group that I received wonderful information from when I was first diagnosed called the Sarcoid Networking Association. I encourage you to read the newsletter archives, there's lot of current information and resource information in there. Dr. Raghu was the main specialist I saw when I was diagnosed, and he's a frequent contributor to their articles & research.
Thank you for your kind words, I'm just me though :) I have to go, my son's ready to play, but please feel free to email me anytime if you'd like to talk more.
All the best...
Ordinary People :)
Date: 2005-03-10 07:35 pm (UTC)Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. I also have the erythema nodosum, although it appears to be lessened at present. I currently have nasty horrible bruises on my left shin (why the left? I know not). I'm also on bone-strenthening injections monthly - but with the sarcoid, you've got to watch the calcium! Feel it's a bit of a catch 22 situation at the moment.
Going to see Eye Consultant tomorrow as well as Oncologist (2 different hospitals, appointments 90 minutes apart), so will update my journal tomorrow night.
Thanks for your reply.
